Policies

Here are some of our most important policies:

Process of Establishing Care:

  • First, request your appointment here and wait for Dr. Reiner to give you a call for a quick conversation to potentially confirm the appointment request

  • Sign up for the patient portal (if an initial visit is agreed upon)

  • Fill out forms (consents, waivers, clinic policies). These are required for your first visit
  • Have your initial appointment(s)

    • The intake appointment(s) serve as a consultation only. We may come to the mutual agreement to establish care

    • You may decide to seek care elsewhere, or I may decide that you require care best served from another provider or in another treatment context

    • If you miss your first appointment, it will not be rescheduled

    • Most appointments are via video-visits/telepsychiatry given COVID. There may be in-person appointment availability in the future

Follow-up Appointments:

  • Frequency of visits is dependent on your clinical needs. Most patients follow-up every few weeks to every month

Medication Management:

  • Due to regulatory requirements, for patients who are seen exclusively via telemedicine/video-visits, we cannot prescribe controlled substances including:

    • Stimulants for ADHD such as Ritalin, Adderall, etc.

    • Sedative/hypnotics for insomnia such as Ambien, Sonata, etc.

    • Benzodiazepines/Anxiolytics for anxiety such as Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin, etc.

    • For patients currently on controlled substances, we cannot continue them or prescribe them if all visits have been via telemedicine/video-visits. We make effort to prescribe alternatives to controlled substances to address symptoms to reduce risk

  • If controlled medications are prescribed at a later date (which would require in-person visits):

    • No early refills will be provided even if medications are stolen or lost

    • Appointments are required for refills and dosage adjustments

  • Prescription Monitoring Program database can be utilized to understand a patient's controlled prescription history. This is done to avoid excessive use of controlled substances

  • Toxicology screens may be utilized during the course of your treatment

  • Prescription refill requests must be placed one week in advanced

Billing and fees:

  • Appointment fees are charged for my time to provide an assessment and plan. Fees are not conditional on receiving a particular diagnosis or treatment. If you ultimately decide to pursue subsequent care elsewhere, fees are still required for the initial evaluation

  • A credit card on file is required to schedule visits

  • Please refer to the fees page for details on fees charged for certain communications and administrative work

  • Cancellations and missed appointments

    • Missed appointments will be charged the full feeBeing 10 or more minutes late is considered a missed appointment

    • Cancellations >24 hours in advanced of a visit will not be charged

    • Cancellations <24 hours in advanced will be charged half the appointment rate

    • Missed appointment and cancelled appointment fees are unlikely to be covered by insurance

Communication:

  • For emergencies where you or someone else is in danger, please call 911 and/or go to the nearest ER

  • Most between-visit communication will occur through the patient portal
